Spent the day in Berkeley. Got lost on BART from San Francisco to Berkeley, but was met by Susan Silber at the station. Susan is a long-time environmental educator and community organizer based in Berkeley, and is keen on building resilience. [Pollination by bees, green projects, permaculture] are all new concepts for me, but it is heart-warming to know that some people really care about the planet. Also had the honor of meeting with Dr. Sheila Humphreys, Emerita Director of Diversity of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and UC Berkeley. Dr. Humphreys is a long-time advocate promoting gender equality and women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math). I hope to be able to help others one day as well.
